Bakers, take your positions!

There are seven confirmed locations for the bake sale on October 1st.  Yours truly will be at the Round Rock sale next to Dell Diamond.  If any of you kind people have some awesome bake sale-ish recipes, gluten-free welcome too, post a comment here!

Here is what I’m planning and hoping to have ready for the sale next weekend:

Pecan Tarts

Nanaimo Bars (by my friend J.S.) and I’m translating to gluten-free

Austin Bakes for Bastrop Facebook Page

Things are coming together for the upcoming bake sale on October 1st!

A First Giving donation website is up for online contributions to the cause: Central Texas Wildfire Relief Fund to aid residents who lost everything in Bastrop due to the massive fires.

I found the Texas Parks & Wildlife video showing footage of the wildfires as it consumed most (over 90%) of the state park.  With the fires moving that fast it’s a miracle everyone got out of the path in time, but there was no time to gather belongings.

A big thank you to Round Rock Parks & Recreation for donating space for a bake sale location!  The full list of bake sale locations will be available soon, I’ll keep y’all posted.

I’m planning to bake some goodies for an upcoming bake sale raising funds to help those who lost their homes to the wildfires this summer.  If you’re in the Austin area, watch for bake sale locations around Austin on Saturday October 1st from 10:00 – 2:00.  Mark your calendars to come by to see what local bakers have made with love for this special cause.

All proceeds will be donated to Central Texas Wildfire Fund that will directly have an impact on the victims of the Austin area wildfires.

One of the blogs I follow is Lisa’s Foods on the Move because she is devoted to eating locally grown food, this is a goal I’m working towards (again) and trying to convince my family to do the same.  Her current project hits home for me.  I grew up on a family farm which is still in operation today.  My family in Alberta received recognition from the government for staying on our land for over 100 years.  Farm Aid is trying to keep family farms alive here in the US, Lisa’s fundraiser is for Farm Aid.  

If you have vegetarian recipes you would like to donate to Lisa’s eBook, check out her blog here for how to submit recipes by Feb 12th.  The definition of vegetarian for this eBook is no meat (I asked just to be sure).  Eggs and dairy are acceptable ingredients, and hey what’s better than farm fresh eggs!

All net profits from the cookbook will be donated to Farm Aid.
